Mr. M.K.Asthana, presently working as General Manager ( New Initiatives – Welding Research) in NTPC Limited, joined NTPC in the year 1986 as Executive Trainee – XI batch immediately after graduation.
He did Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, MESRA, RANCHI & graduated in 1986 with distinction.
In NTPC in his initial 12 years of his career, he worked at RIHAND, RAMAGUNDAM & Panipat Refinery Captive Power Project un Field Quality Assurance and in the year 1998 he got the opportunity to work in Corporate Quality Assurance in Engineering Office of NTPC at NOIDA. Immediately after joining he was selected in the first batch to do full time M.Tech in Power Generation Technology from IIT Delhi.
After M. Tech in December 1999, he was re-inducted in CQA & assigned greater responsibilities. He gained valuable experience in technical specification finalisation, quality assurance & inspection of mechanical items of thermal power plant based on sub critical, super critical & ultra super critical technology.
He visited to several manufacturer work places for assessment, manufacturing quality plan finalisation as well inspection.By this process he gained in depth understanding & knowledge of manufacturing processes, welding & NDT.
Based on his valuable experience & knowledge in the field of Welding & NDT, last year he was elevated to the rank of General Manager and given the very challenging role of New Initiatives – Welding Research, in which he his working a different fronts – mainly categorised as Skill Development, Advance NDT training & certification, failure analysis due to welding, developing blue print for Welding Training Centers & World class Welding Research Center of NTPC and metallurgical, Welding & NDT aspects of AUSC.
He is interacting with various internationally & nationally renowned industries in Welding & NDT, involving them in various roles & trying hard to develop a wonderful relationship & understanding with Welding & NDT industries in order to meet the assigned role.
